Our clean, modern and well-equipped surgical suite provides a safe, comfortable environment where your pet will receive the best available care and our undivided attention. We are trained in the most up to date surgical techniques, and use cutting edge equipment and technology to perform all of our in-house procedures as quickly and efficiently as possible. What’s more, our anesthetic and sedation services will keep your pet safe and comfortable, before, during and following surgery.
The first step in any surgical procedure performed at Main West Animal Hospital begins with a thorough examination and comprehensive health screening of your pet. This allows us to determine whether your companion is well enough to undergo surgery, and identify any unique risk factors he or she may have. When we are proactive about how we approach your pet’s surgery, we are much better prepared to manage the procedure as safely as possible, which is our ultimate goal.
Once your pet is cleared for surgery, we’ll begin by administering pain control medication, which will be customized for your pet’s specific needs and risk factors. Pain management is a very important aspect of your pets care. We use a variety of sedatives, local anesthetics, general anesthetics, laser therapy and pain medications to ensure your pet’s comfort. The goal is to keep your companion comfortable while also accounting for their optimum wellbeing at all times while in our care.
In addition to appropriate pain management, it’s also important to us that your pet remains as relaxed and at ease as possible while in our care. To that end, we offer soft pillows, plush blankets and even body warming mats to help keep your pet warm and cozy during their surgical procedure and make the experience as comfortable as possible.
During surgery, the doctor will work diligently to perform the procedure, while our team of highly skilled, caring veterinary technicians will remain on-hand to assist with the procedure and monitor your pet using the most modern and effective monitoring equipment available. Our surgical suite is fully equipped with two anesthetic machines and a digital anesthetic monitor, which is used to measure your pet’s vital signs such as respiration, heart rate and blood pressure.

Before bringing your pet home, we will carefully explain how to best care for your pet, including wound care and ways that you can make your pet’s recovery as comfortable as possible. Once you’ve returned home with your pet, you can expect a follow up phone call to check on how the recovery process is going and answer any questions that you may have.
